History

How we started

The Hinton School of Dance Society was founded in 1988 by Heidi Bunting. Ms. Bunting moved from New York, where she had been a dancer, to Hinton to set up a ballet school. She named the school the Hinton Ballet School. Several years later Ms. Bunting moved to Edmonton, where she is now chair of and instructor in Grant MacEwan’s well-known Diploma in Dance Program and is also an important choreographer.  When Ms. Bunting moved, the school was handed over to a volunteer board or directors. The Board is committed to providing quality dance education and performance opportunities in Hinton.

Over the next couple of years, additional disciplines of Tap, Jazz, Irish, Hip Hop and Lyrical were added to the School’s classes. The name of Hinton Ballet School no longer represented what the School was offering. In 1998 the School became known as the Hinton School of Dance Society, a registered non-profit organization.
